Villa Roz, Kefalonia Review: Our Stay with Villa Plus
On our fourth trip to Kefalonia, we stayed at Villa Roz, a four-bedroom Villa Plus property on the south coast of the island.
We were travelling as a family group of six, and wanted somewhere with plenty of space, a private pool and within easy drive to local attractions.
We spent a week here in September, and overall had a wonderful stay. The villa is modern and spacious, the pool is lovely, and the views across the Ionian Sea are absolutely glorious. There were, however, a few things that we felt could easily be improved.
So, if you've found Villa Roz while searching for a villa in Kefalonia and are wondering what it's actually like to stay there, here's our full review.
Planning a trip to Kefalonia? I've now visited the island four times, so you can also read my Kefalonia travel guide, with my favourite places to visit, beaches, wildlife experiences and things to do around the island.
Where is Villa Roz?
We managed to spot the villa from the top of Mount Ainos
Villa Roz is listed by Villa Plus as being in the Lourdas area, but it's actually situated in Platies, roughly halfway along the south coast between Lourdas and Skala.
You'll definitely want a hire car here. The villa is in an secluded position rather than within a village centre, so you're not going to be wandering out of the door and strolling to restaurants each evening. For us, though, the location worked really well as a base for exploring.
We visited both Lourdas and Skala during our stay and personally preferred Skala, which has a lovely beach, plenty of restaurants and cute gift shops to browse on cobbled streets.
There's also a small well-stocked supermarket nearby, which we found really useful for groceries and essentials.
The view from Villa Roz
View of Zakynthos from Villa Roz
Let's start with my favourite thing about this villa: that view.
Because Villa Roz sits high above the coast, you have a beautiful sweeping view across the bay and out towards the Ionian Sea. We could see Zakynthos in the distance.
The villa faces west enough to get some absolutely spectacular evening skies, and sitting outside with a drink watching the sun go down was lovely.
If you're choosing a villa in Kefalonia partly because you want somewhere beautiful to gaze out, Villa Roz scores very highly.
The pool and outside space
The private pool was another highlight.
The pool - a little cold but lush to swim and relax in
It's a really good size and we used it every day. There are plenty of sun loungers, and lots of space for a group to spread out.
However, this is also the area where we thought a few relatively small changes would make the biggest difference.
The cushions on the sun loungers were looking quite old and tatty and could do with replacing. There also weren't any little tables beside the loungers, which sounds insignificant until you're repeatedly trying to work out where to put your book, sunglasses and drink⌠however, our biggest issue outside was the lack of shade.
While there is some covered space immediately beside the villa, there simply wasn't enough shade around the pool area for a group of people. An additional parasol or two would make an big difference, particularly for anyone who doesn't want to spend the entire day in direct Greek sunshine.
The pool towels could also do with an upgrade. We were provided with one each, they were quite old and worn, and they weren't replaced when the villa was cleaned during our stay.
None of these things ruined our enjoyment of the pool - far from it - but they're easy improvements that would make the outside space considerably more comfortable.
Thereâs also a table tennis and pool table set up outside, which was fun to use, as well as a BBQ (we didnât use but nice addition).
Open plan kitchen, dining and living room area
Inside Villa Roz
Inside, the villa is modern and nicely decorated.
There was plenty of wardrobe and storage space, which isn't always the case in holiday accommodation, and the air conditioning was very welcome.
With six of us staying, we had plenty of room and never felt as though we were on top of one another.
Downstairs bedroom, Villa Roz
The kitchen was probably the weakest area inside the villa. It had all the major appliances we needed, but we found the selection of utensils and smaller kitchen items quite sparse.
We weren't planning on doing elaborate cooking - we were in Greece and fully intended to make the most of the local restaurants! - but even for simple breakfasts, lunches and snacks, a few more basic utensils would have been useful.
There wasn't any kitchen roll supplied either, so that's one to add to your first supermarket shop.
A practical note about toilets and rubbish

If you haven't stayed in this part of Greece before, one thing to be aware of is that toilet paper can't be flushed down the toilet.
Instead, it goes into the bathroom bins, which means you'll probably want to empty them fairly regularly.
The information in the villa instructed guests to take their rubbish to the large communal bins on the roadside and warned of a âŹ60 charge if rubbish was left at the villa.
We found the roadside bins easily enough and took our rubbish out regularly during the week. As it happened, the cleaner arrived shortly before we left and very kindly offered to take our final rubbish for us.
It wasn't a problem, but it's useful to know before you arrive, particularly if you've never stayed in a Greek villa before.
Cleaning and Villa Plus service
The cleaners and pool maintenance team we met during our stay were really friendly.
We also found Villa Plus very responsive. We contacted them via WhatsApp during our stay to ask a few questions, and messages were answered promptly.
WiFi at Villa Roz
The WiFi wasn't particularly good during our stay.
For us this wasn't a huge problem - we were on holiday and weren't planning to spend much time online - but it's worth knowing if you're hoping to work from the villa, stream lots of TV or have several people using the connection at once.
Mobile data became the easier option at times, I had 5G on my phone in all areas except for the bedroom.
Was Villa Roz peaceful?
Mostly, but there were a couple of caveats during our particular stay.
There was building work taking place next door, which meant some construction noise during the daytime. There was also a nearby dog who was rather fond of making his presence known!
Obviously both of those things can change and aren't necessarily within Villa Plus's control, so I wouldn't let either put me off booking the villa in future. But they're worth mentioning as part of an honest review of our stay.
Enjoying the sunset
Would we stay at Villa Roz again?
Overall, we really enjoyed our week at Villa Roz.
The villa itself is spacious and attractive, the pool is fantastic, the location worked really well for exploring Kefalonia and that beautiful sea view - particularly at sunset - is lovely.
Most of our criticisms are relatively small things that could be easily fixed: newer sun lounger cushions and pool towels, a couple of small tables around the pool, better-equipped kitchen cupboards and, most importantly, more shade outside.
With those additions, the villa would be even better.
Kefalonia itself remains one of my favourite Greek islands - four visits and counting! If you're considering a holiday here, have a read of my Kefalonia travel guide next for lots more ideas about what to see and do during your stay.
