Review of Taigh Iasg, Isle of Skye

Taigh Iasg Cottage on the Isle of Skye - a wonderful dog friendly holiday home that welcomes dogs.

A wonderful dog-friendly cottage for two with spectacular views on Skye

We've stayed in quite a few holiday cottages over the years, and Taigh Iasg is easily one of the best!

Situated in Glenhinnisdal, on the beautiful Isle of Skye, this lovely cottage has the most incredible 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. In fact, the location is probably its biggest selling point. Wherever you look, there's something beautiful to see, and with plenty of windows, you can enjoy the scenery without even leaving the sofa.

The cottage itself is spacious, comfortable, beautifully light and spotlessly clean. The well-equipped kitchen had everything we needed, and the underfloor heating and electric fire made it wonderfully cosy, particularly on the cold, wet and windy days we experienced during our October stay.

There were lots of thoughtful little touches that made a difference. The entrance porch had plenty of hooks and space for muddy boots and wet coats, as well as a dog towel for our dog, Arwen. The kitchen was well equipped, with everything we needed for cooking, and there was a mini dishwasher - just about big enough for two people’s dishes.

Genuinely dog-friendly

One thing we particularly appreciated was how welcoming the cottage was for Arwen, our Golden Retriever.

The garden was fully fenced and gated, so we could relax knowing she was secure. There were dog bowls, towels, blankets and poo bags provided, along with some treats in the welcome basket.

We also loved the sensible approach to dogs on the furniture. Blankets were provided for protecting the sofas, with a friendly note acknowledging the realities of holidaying with dogs! It's refreshing to stay somewhere that welcomes dogs rather than simply tolerating them.

The welcome basket also contained treats for us, and there was milk waiting in the fridge. Such lovely touches after a long journey.

The view…

Peace, quiet and a fantastic location

Despite being wonderfully peaceful and rural, Taigh Iasg is well positioned for exploring the island. We travelled all over Skye during our stay and found it a great base for our adventures.

There was plenty of parking, and although we had no mobile phone signal at the cottage, the Wi-Fi worked well.

The owner was friendly and welcoming but also gave us complete privacy throughout our stay, which we really appreciated. We felt entirely relaxed and left to enjoy our holiday.

A few tiny improvements?

If I were being particularly picky, there are a handful of things that could make an already excellent cottage even better.

A few extra hooks for towels and dressing gowns would be useful, along with some drawers or shelving in the bedroom for clothes. The kitchen knives could have been sharper, and an additional tea towel would have been handy.

But these really are minor observations rather than complaints, and none detracted from our stay.

Would we return? Absolutely!

Taigh Iasg really does tick so many boxes: spectacular scenery, a peaceful location, comfortable accommodation, thoughtful touches and a genuinely dog-friendly welcome.

It's a wonderful place to return to after a day exploring Skye, especially when the Scottish weather is doing its thing outside!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. It's certainly set a high standard for future holiday cottages.
