Mini break in Wallingford, Oxfordshire

My best friend and I try to plan regular ‘retreats’ - a chance to spend quality time together, have a change of scene, relax and reset. We ask each other questions about what we want to achieve, talk about all the things going on in our lives, and sometimes do something a bit ‘different’ (one year we booked a sound bath, for example - which was wonderful).

This year, we settled on this gorgeous cottage, with a view to doing … well, very little.

It was glorious weather, and we sat outside chatting for a good portion of the time. We did some watercolour painting. We cooked pizza one night, macaroni cheese the other. We drank pink gin. And we had an afternoon tea delivered. It was relaxing and restorative.

The Cottage

The location; a thatched cottage in Wallingford - Oxfordshire.

Best described as ‘idyllic’ … a cosy, rustic retreat. Wooden beams throughout. Welcoming and delightful decor. The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to cook our own meals easily. Lovely shower in the bathroom (located downstairs). Cosy living room, with a gorgeous inglenook fireplace. The upstairs had two double bedrooms, with lovely views from the windows.

The garden was a real treat, with huge, beautiful trees and lots of birds to listen to. And the host was friendly and welcoming while leaving us to it. The perfect little mini-break location.

Overall, a lovely little break - we didn’t venture out (my knee meant little walking for me) but we would return, the local area looks lovely to explore…
